A 1.6 g plastic bead charged to -4.1 nC and a 3.7 g glass bead charged to 18.9 nC are 2.5 cm apart.?

A 1.6 g plastic bead charged to -4.1 nC and a 3.7 g glass bead charged to 18.9 nC are 2.5 cm apart. What are the magnitudes of the accelerations of the plastic bead and the glass bead? And what are the directions of the accelerations of the plastic bead and the glass bead? The beads are attracted to one another. The beads are moved in the same direction. Or the beads are repulsed to one another

1 Answer

  • Plastic bead,

    m1 = 1.6 x10^-3 kg

    q1 = - 4.1x10^-9 C

    Glass bead,

    m2 = 3.7x 10^-3 kg

    q2 = 18.9 x 10^-9 C

    Distance between the two = d = 2.5 x 10^-2 m

    Force of attraction between them is

    F = 9x10^9 x q1x q2 / d^2 = 1.1159 x 10^-3 N

    They move towards each other.

    Acceleration of the plastic and glass beads respectively are,

    a1 = F / m1 = 0.6974 m /s

    a2 = F / m2 = 0.30 m /s
