I have a root canal coming up this wednesday, but that's also St. Patricks Day and all my friends are going out that night. Should I avoid consuming alcohol or would a few drinks be okay?

Yes.
The alcohol will numb the pain. Alcohol is also an antiseptic.
Make sure your lips are not numb from Novacaine or all the liquid will spill out.
Here is an article the talks about some tasty Irish beers that might help your cause.

Both are fine, unless as stated before, pain meds are being used. Smoking doesn't damage the root canal, but does damage the gums and may cause an exposed nerve, but if you smoke regularly then there's no bypassing that Best of luck to you 🙂

Unless you're taking pain meds, I don't see any reason why alcohol would affect your half-finished root canal.

I would recommend being very cautious if you consume any alcohol if they have given you any type of pain killers for the root canal. They may make you very drowsy. If you only have Novocain you should be fine.

The thing about drinking and dental work is that if it's not allowed,
there's no such thing as "a few would be ok".
It's not as if you hold the liquid in your mouth all the time .... so if it's
not allowed, that means nothing whatsoever.
