  • You should really arrive at your own conclusions but since you asked, for what it's worth, this is my spin on it (I advise you reread the article to affirm or dispute my assessment):

Friedman attempts to promote positive sentiment for an issue that involves no sentiment. Outsourcing is driven by cynical economic motivation to increase revenues and lower taxes for profit seeking private enterprises. There is no motive to "do good" or "improve the world". The only motive is to make more profit and pay less taxes. If some handful of Indians "feel good" about the results, that is incidental and irrelevant. The proper criterion for discussion on this subject is the social cost of economic policy. You determine that by considering what positive and negative effects the policy has on society, not by focusing selectively on the self-esteem of some small group. Yes, having a job as opposed to not having a job on average probably makes most people "feel better" about themselves but are they actually "better" by any measurable standards?

Friedman's article is an appeal to hollow sentiment based on superficial and unscientific personal anecdote. If you want to tell me about the effects of outsourcing, cite statistics showing me wage and employment trends then explain how these trends are attributable to outsourcing -- don't tell me you met eight people that seemed real happy and well-adjusted. That doesn't >INFORM< me of anything. Friedman intends to inform no one of anything with this article, he in fact intends the opposite. He hopes you will read it, "feel good" about the self-esteem of eight Indian kids then conclude >WITHOUT FURTHER ENQUIRY< that outsourcing must be a really good thing since this stupid little anecdote made you feel so positive for a fleeting (and totally uninformed) moment.

  • Most people grow up with the bible and think teaching it to children is saving them. I have read the bible and its just something I can't believe. I study Buddhism because I feel its better for my soul. I don't think people should push their beliefs on young child because its kinda brainwashing. No, I don't believe sewer faeries. The bible attacks people fears of the unknown, thats why its been around for so long. The messages are mixed but if someone can find soul lessons in it then more power to them.

  • Here’s a quick summary. I read that article. “A load of crap.” That’s how I’d summarize it.

It’s a stupid attempt to justify the greed associated with outsourcing good American jobs. Anything to serve the richest people on the planet, right?

Hey at least your story doesn't have inconsistencies in it like that other book we won't mention so as not to offend the christians who read it. Nor has the toliet fairy to my knowledge ordered anyone to kill their child, allowed anyone to commit genocide in their name (oh yeah except for the virgins) or sent their child to suffer in agony for people who never asked for it in the first place. Mind you your fairy does't have the upstanding citizen of that other book, you know like Moses, or Lots daughters. ((( Fuzzy Monster)))

  • Since it's SUPER SHORT and in very plain English, why not just READ IT?

  • suck a dick
