Soooo, i LOVE otomes and i’ve only ever played them on my iphone or watched the routes on youtube. Mostly games from Voltage Inc. like My Forged Wedding, Class Trip Crush, Seduced in the Sleepless City…etc.) but i just bought the limited edition Mario and Luigi 3DS XL and so far i only have 2 games: Mario and Luigi Dream Team which came pre downloaded on it and a game i bought separately, which is Style Savvy: Trendetter. So now im looking for good Otomes for the 3DS that are in English. I’ve seen games like Hakouki: Memories of the Shinsengumi and Fire Emblem but some people say they aren’t that great as far as the romance goes…But if anyone can find any decent ones that would be awesome. Also feel free to suggest any other games besides otomes 🙂

Well if you want it in English you will have to have pretty low standards when it comes to the amount of romance because your options are extremely limited. Hakuoki: Demon of the Fleeting Blossom is the only Otome game available in English for the 3DS which is like the games you are used to where there are routes and lots of CG pictures and such. Other than that there are a few games which have some Otome elements but they aren’t just Otome games, they have other aspects to them. Besides Hakuoki here are some other games that have some Otome elements:
Harvest Moon: A New Beginning
Harvest Moon: Tale of Two Towns
Rune Factory 4
Fire Emblem: Awakening
And that’s about it.
Some games good games that have Anime style are:
-Etrian Odyssey IV: Legends of the Titan
-Etrian Odyssey Untold: The Millenium Girl
-Shin Megami Tensei IV
-Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Summoner – Soul Hackers
-Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor Overclocked
-Pokemon X &Y
-Rhythm Thief & the Emperor’s Treasure
-Project X Zone
-Ace Attorney: Duel Destinies
-Attack of the Friday Monsters! A Tokyo Tale
-Kid Icarus Uprising
-HarmoKnight
-Zero Escape: Virtue’s Last Reward (you will probably want to 999 for the DS first though)

In Japan there are more otome games on the PSP but here in the U.S there are more games with romance elements on the DS. In English the PSP has Hakuoki, Sweet Fuse (which isn’t out yet), and a Persona game or two. Those are pretty much the only English PSP games with otome elements. There are quite a few more English DS games with otome elements. You’ve got Harvest Moon games, Avalon Code, Princess Debut, Magician’s Quest, a few of the Imagine games, and some others. Visual Novels are games where you just make choices and answer questions. Although there are also VN Hybrids which have other game elements. But a pure Visual Novel is in fact just choosing between options. Otome games can be any kind of genre. It could be an RPG, or a stat raising game, or a puzzle game, or a simulation game, whatever. What makes an otome game an otome game is the ability to play as a female character and being able to romantically pursue male characters (and sometimes female characters). It is true that otome games are often Visual Novels since that style of game works well with pursing characters but Visual Novel and otome are terms that describe two different types of games. So if you want to play an otome game play one of the games I listed earlier. If you want to play a Visual Novel some of those otome games for the DS work but they are all hybrids. There are no pure VNs for the DS or 3DS. But here are some good VN hybrids that are not otome games: 9 hours, 9 Persons, 9 Doors, Zero Escape Virtue’s Last Reward, Lux Pain, the Ace Attorney series, Time Hollow, and Hotel Dusk: Room 215. Those are mostly puzzle and or mystery games. That type of game play as works well with VN elements. If you want to play a pure VN in English you can find some available for your computer. As for your other question, there are not many otome games coming out in English for the DS/3DS. This Summer Rune Factory 4 for the 3DS will come out and you can play as a girl and marry one of six guys in that game. And this is a stretch but there is also a 3DS game called Hometown Story that should be coming out this year or next year. There is very little info on the game but you can play as a male or female and during the most recent trailer it showed the male MC in a tux with one of the female villagers in a wedding gown so it is possible you will be able to get married in that game as well. But there is really no way to know for sure right now. It is very possible you won’t end up having such an option in the game. That’s really all I can think of.
