How many pi bonds are in a tryptophan molecule?

I'm really confused. Looks like this:

  • Okay pi bonds come into play when you have double or triple bonds. A double bond has one sigma bond and one pi bond. A triple bond has one sigma bond and 2 pi bonds. So, looking at your picture you have 5 double bonds which means you have 5 pi bonds!

    Hope that helps.

  • In a bond between one atom and another, the first bond is sigma. the rest are pi bonds.

    there are 27 sigma bonds. You see where one atom connects to another? One of those is sigma.

    If it is a double bond, there is one sigma and one pi.

    if it is a triple bond, there is one sigma and two pi.

    there are 5 pi bonds.

    C = C

    C = C

    C = C

    C = C

    C = O

    in all of those, there is one sigma and one pi. between everything else, there is only one sigma.
