• White doves are between $10-$35. PetSmart sometimes carries them for the $35 range but the best place is to look up dove breeders on google. There are tons of local pet shops that also carry them.

  I'm not sure if they are stilling doing this or not but the last I checked, the USPS will actually mail (express mail overnight) doves anywhere in the Continental US. Some websites will actually sell them and ship them using this method.

  I'm sensitive to the fact that this might sound cruel, though I won't voice my personal opinion on it, I've heard fewer horror stories with this than I have with airlines if shipping is your only option.

  You can always get in contact with local magicians in your area who might be breeding their own doves and have some extras. Magic clubs and such can be very helpful in that way.

  As for safety in the winter, it's safe to get doves any time of year and doves are very easy to tame and train. Make sure if you are keeping them outdoors you research how to build a proper outdoor dove cage. One of the most important things being that they have a flat perch to perch on for the winter months. Doves need to be able to have their feet flat and warm their entire foot otherwise they could lose their toenails due to the cold.

• They price anywhere from free to $4000. It would be best if you bought a young bird about 4 weeks old and continued hand raising it from there, start training young. I think you may have to wait a few months until the breeding season kicks in.

• Price depends on the area of the country you are in and what type. Safety during winter depends on the temperature and how warm your car stays. As for the training...hmmm...you'll have to ask someone who trains birds. Most breeders don't raise birds for that type of training.
