It will not work properly and unless you can get a replacement go back to the old fashioned boiling method. Add a jug of boiling water to a pot and when it returns to the boil add the rice. Let it return to the boil again and then lower the heat to a simmer and use the timer for 15 minutes for white rice. Turn off the element and then drain the rice through a sieve an let it drip for about a minute, tossing from time to time. Place the rice back into the pot and the pot back onto the same element. Let it steam and fluff it up, from time to time. That is the best time to add any vegetables you want to add, and any sauces you may like to taste like soy. Mix it all up again, and taste-test to see if it needs more salt and some pepper. H-man

  • You don't even need a rice cooker to cook rice.Rice can be cooked in a vessel with a lid on top or without a lid on top. If you need to cook 2 cups of rice, add 4 cups of water (double the amt. of rice) and watch over it while it boils as it can froth up and overflow. keep stirring once in a while.i suggest that it be watched throughout. take it off heat when its cooked and strain it.

  • When I read my package directions on brown rice it says that 1/4 cup dry yields 3/4 cup cooked. You do not specify whether you are cooking brown or white rice, but just read the package directions and it will tell you what you want to know.

  • it would actually depend on the rice - but you can pretty much plan on double. Also as a rule of thumb you add twice as much water as rice - add a little salt to the water (i also like a little pat of butter) stir once then cover and simmer for about an hour. Makes perfect rice. but don't use instant or Uncle Ben type rices - they are so icky!

  • really depends on the type of rice and how long you cook it... Correctly cooked you will yield aprox. 1 cup if you fluff the rice when you take it off of the stove..

  • White rice almost near to double/ or double depends on your cooking also.
