how to I treat an infected microdermal?

I got two microdermal piercings on my clavicles back in January and the other morning I woke up and it was red and a little sore but nothing too bad and then over the last few days it’s been getting progressively worse. I woke up Friday and the area around it was rock hard and bright red and today I was cleaning it and I put pressure on the area around it and it began to puss – badly. I called my piercer (this was before the pussing) and he told me to use warm compresses and salt. Any other suggestions? I know taking it out would the best option but I can’t take it out if it is this infected because I was told it would heal without draining the infection

  • Don’t stress – microdermals tend to do that periodically unti they are fully healed. While they appear healed quite quickly, they take four months to be superficially healed and won’t be completely healed for two years.

So on and off occassionally they will get red and puss. It’s normal. Sea salt washes are the best thing for them but if you feel like you would like to do more then you can use tea tree oil. I used to just dab it around the dermal using a cotton bud (or q-tip or whatever you call them).

btw on your clavicles if you have clothes over them or near them on occasion this can cause irritation so you might want to watch that

    Hope that helps!

*sigh* I miss my microdermals I had three in a row down my chest (sternum) – they rejected because the piercer put them too close together *sigh*

  • Sea salt mixed with warm water will work really well. Ointments are really bad for it, they need to be aired out as well. Sea salt isn’t bad for it, just table salt is because it doesn’t have iodine in it c: I would definitely recommend a product called H2Ocean. Its just a spray that you spray on your dermal and works SO well. good luck!

  • You might want to be safe and slam some antibiotics baby doll.
