How to solve 2(12-8x) = x-11x … ?

Can someone explain how you got the answer and work the problem for me?

  • First, you distribute the numbers.

    2(12-8x) = x-11x

    24-16x = x-11x

    Then combine like terms

    24-16x = -10x

    After that, add 16x to both sides of the equation.

    24-16x = -10x

    +16x +16x

    -----------------------

    24 = 6x

    Finally, divide 6 by both sides of the equation to find x.

    24 = 6x

    ---- -----

    6 6

    4 = x

  • 2(12-8x) = x-11x

    Let's get all the x's on the same side of the equation.

    2(12-8x) = x-11x

    First, multiply out the left side:

    24-16x = x-11x

    Work the math on the right side:

    24-16x = -10x

    Add 16x to both sides:

    24 = 6x

    Divide both sides by 6:

    4 = x

    ===============

    Now check:

    2(12-8x) = x-11x

    2(12-8*4) = 4-11*4

    2(12-32) = 4-44

    2(-20) = -40

    -40 = -40

    check

  • To solve this, you must get all your "x's" on the same side of the equation. But first, let's rewrite this equation:

    2(12-8x) = x - 11x

    24 - 16x = 1x - 11x

    24 - 16x = -10x Now, we can add 16x to both sides!

    24 - 16x + 16x = -10x + 16x This gives us,

    24 = 6x Now, we solve for x! We do this by dividing both sides by 6.

    24/6 = 6x/6

    4 = x or, x = 4

  • You need to distribute the 2..

    so 24-16x=-x

    24=15x

    then divide 24 by 15 to get x 🙂
