Right now I’m learning how to solve Rational Expressions and I can’t seem to understand this expression. Can someone please type in the answer and show the steps in order to solve it?? That way I would know what to do the next time something like this pops up 🙂
Thanks

Well fist of all you cross multiply the two sides, thus:
(x – 3) (x – 6) = (x – 3) x
x^2 – 6x – 3x + 18 = x^2 – 3x
now we move the right hand side expression to left hand side and solve:
x^2 – x^2 – 6x – 3x + 3x + 18 = 0
-6x + 18 = 0
-6x = – 18
x = 18/6
x = 3

*Eliminate fractions… First: multiply the denominators with each term. 2(3)(6)(x/3) – 2(3)(6)(x/6) = 2(3)(6)(2) Sec: cross cancel the same terms – combine the rest. 2(6)(x) – 2(3)(x) = 2(3)(6)(2) 12x – 6x = 72 6x = 72 Third: divide both sides by 6 (when you move a term to the opposite side, alway use the opposite sign). 6x/6 = 72/6 x = 72/6 x = 12
