How to turn off the number lock key?

I have a Windows 7 laptop. I was trying to turn the brightness down, but instead I turned on number lock and I'm not sure how to turn it off. It's annoying to have to keep holding down the FN key to type this.

In case you're not sure what I'm talking about, then here is what I said up there without holding down the FN key:

have a W5nd6ws 7 3a*t6*. was try5ng t6 t4rn the br5ghtness d6wn, b4t 5nstead t4rned 6n n40ber 36c2 and '0 n6t s4re h6w t6 t4rn 5t 6ff. t's ann6y5ng t6 have t6 2ee* h63d5ng d6wn the FN 2ey t6 ty*e th5s.

Help is much appreciated. Thanks.

Answer

Click Start, click Run, and type regedit to open the Windows registry editor.
In the registry, open the below folders.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\
Control Panel\
Keyboard\

Within the keyboard folder, you should have a string value named "InitialKeyboardIndicators" with a value of 0, 1, or 2. Below is the explanation of each of these values.

0 = Num Lock is turned OFF after the logon.
1 = Disable Num Lock.
2 = Numlock is turned ON after the logon.

Hope this helps!
