It goes out to all families and residents to read. It has upcoming events at the facility but I would love to make it more fun and interesting.

Tips for families about visiting and little gifts to bring residents. Visited residents will be happier and perhaps treated a little better. They might enjoy visits, flowers, lotions, photos, candy, balloons, food treats, etc. Let them know to check for food restrictions before gifting food. Talk about the joy of children and they can be overwhelming if too many too long.
Talk about residents grandchildren, pictures they can show off to the other residents, grand children getting into colleges and graduations and weddings.
Volunteer opportunities for adults and children, reading to people, leading exercise classes, singing. What the residents would enjoy as donations like used magazines. Special needs like medicaid people that could use white t-shirts or socks with sizes or the need for tooth care products or grooming supplies.

I work in a nursing home, we do a monthly newsletter. What are some topics that could be in this newsletter?

A monthly calendar: Easter Celebration, Saturday Pancake Breakfast, Comedy Night, etc. You can highlight some of the residents by interviewing them about where they grew up, etc. Or do a 'The Wildest Thing I Ever Did Was...' Column.(At least that'll be fun.) It helps to discuss resources too, who to call in case of an emergency, how to find the local library, etc. because many of the residents may be having memory issues and could use the reminders to keep them having things to look forward to doing.

Stephanie it may be fun for the residents to talk with them after a resident monthly council meeting and get their ideas on what they would like to see in a newsletter. Some residents may also like to contribute to the newsletter. Family members likewise may also like to contribute.

include the arrival of new guests, who they are, where they are from, and a short biography
you may consider adding a short " in memory " section, mentioning all those who have passed away.
You might also want to a include a section about new employees., their names, their new duties, and a short bio about them ..
