Is my dad’s cousin my cousin or my aunt?

My sister and I disagree on whether our dad's cousin is our aunt or our cousin. My sister says that she's our cousin while I say that she's our aunt. So tell me, who's right?

  • You are both wrong and so far all your your answers have been incorrect as well. Your fathers cousin is your FIRST COUSIN ONCE REMOVED. The reason is that you are in different generations.

An aunt would be your dads sister.

A cousin would be your dads sisters children.

A second cousin would be you dad's cousin's kids.

    Cousin (a.k.a "first cousin")

Your first cousins are the people in your family who have two of the same grandparents as you. In other words, they are the children of your aunts and uncles.

    Second Cousin

Your second cousins are the people in your family who have the same great-grandparents as you., but not the same grandparents.

    Third, Fourth, and Fifth Cousins

Your third cousins have the same great-great-grandparents, fourth cousins have the same great-great-great-grandparents, and so on.

When the word "removed" is used to describe a relationship, it indicates that the two people are from different generations. You and your first cousins are in the same generation (two generations younger than your grandparents), so the word "removed" is not used to describe your relationship.

The words "once removed" mean that there is a difference of one generation. For example, your mother's first cousin is your first cousin, once removed. This is because your mother's first cousin is one generation younger than your grandparents and you are two generations younger than your grandparents. This one-generation difference equals "once removed."

Twice removed means that there is a two-generation difference. You are two generations younger than a first cousin of your grandmother, so you and your grandmother's first cousin are first cousins, twice removed.

  • Your Dads cousin is your cousin...

Your Dads sister is your aunt.

  • Your dad's cousin is your second cousin. She would have to be your dad's sister to be your aunt.

  • Your sister's right, your dad's cousin is also your cousin, not your aunt.

  • she's your Aunt!

    look here(example)

your dad's sister is your Aunt, right!

    -she is not your sister!

your dad's niece is your cousin, right!

    -she is not your niece!

you see, your dad's cousin is the same as your dad's generation level, you need to follow the generation heirarchy. Which means (following the heirarchial Level) his cousin cant be your cousin aswell, that would turn the world upside down would it?! You fall under their generetion level, the next level, which shows clearly that you are her Nephew---she's your Aunt! and her daughters and sons would be your 2nd cousins. (why second? because you fall under the second level of heirachy, remember?!) but you cant call your Aunt as the "2nd Aunt", there is no such thing, it'll sound stupid..ohwell, "second degree aunt" may work, but it'll be easier to address her just as Aunt <name>!

hope that answer your sister's confusion!!

  • If she's you dad cousin she's also your cousin. If she was your aunt she'd have to be your dad's sister or one of his parents sister.

  • She's your second degree aunt. Your dad has a cousin, therefore she is your aunt on your father's cousin. Your dad's cousin's children are your second degree cousin.

  • There is no doubt that your dad"s cousin will be your Aunt..

  • she would be your second cousin - if your dad has an aunt she would be your great aunt - hope that helps

  • u are rite ur sis is wrong , ur dads cousin , u will call her aunt if ur dads cousin is man call him uncle , then the kids or child of ur dad's cousin is ur second cousin , the kids of ur dad's sister or brother is ur 1st cousin
