I recently bought a DVD set from the UK, I tried playing it on my PS3, but the message- "Video Pal Broadcast Standard Not Supported"
Is there any way to adapt the PS3 to play the discs, or do I have to have something installed?

No, there is no way to modify your NTSC PS3 to play them.
- You need to get a PAL DVD player.
- You're also gonna need a PAL to NTSC converter box to convert that PAL DVD video to the NTSC video displayed on TVs in Canada.

No you won't. PAL and NTSC are types of Standard Definition video formats. You are not using SD resolution, you are using HD resolution via HDMI. So, all games will work under HDMI use. Its only a problem if you are not using HDMI. In that case, the PAL game must be developed to work on NTSC also. Most games are developed for both, but there are some that aren't. There also must not be any region coding on the disc. This is not a problem with games, as they are region free, but this is a very big problem with DVDs because the DVD format is 100% region locked everywhere in the world and is why it didn't work for you. It was because of region coding, not PAL support.

You need a MULTISYSTEM REGION FREE PAL/NTSC DVD player to play PAL discs on NTSC TV.
BTW I got a MULTISYSTEM REGION FREE JVC DVD PLAYER from Saudi Arabia and Canadian PS3 in the Philippines.

you are in north america which uses NTSC standard.. europe uses PAL standard.. you would need to get a european DVD player that is region 0 (unlocked for all regions) or has the same region for the DVD that you bought..

you live in Canada so the television system is NTSC but in the UK the TV type is PAL/ PAL SECAM
you need to change the location to where you bought the dvd set
