So I just got my first tattoo lastnight. The lady who did my tattoo did give me an "after care" sheet that says to use an antibacterial dial soap or an ivory. I was wondering if it was better to use the foam dial or use the bar and rub soap on my hands and gently put it on my tattoo and wash. What have you done to wash your tattoo? I really don't want an infection, and i don't want to over wash it and over use the A & D the tattoo palor gave me either.
Thank you!

Use the ivory. Antibacterial soaps may cause irritation , as the antibacterial agent stays on the skin. All soaps are antibacterial upon contact. Skip the A&D. It can cause the colors to look murky. Use a high quality fragrance free hand lotion.

Plain white soap: Ivory, Dove, Jergens etc. Avoid anti-bacterial soaps and deodorant soaps (Dial). Soap in liquid form is better as bar soaps are easily contaminated (where else has that bar been?). If you're using bar soap then keep it separate and clean and use it only for the tattoo until it's healed.

for both my tattoos, i just got liquid dial soap (infact for my second tattoo i used the store brand) in the shower i would get an ample amount and gently rub it on till it started to foam. i did this very lightly, if it was bothering me that day i would put the soap on, rub till it hurt then let the soap sit on there for a bit. i dont recall it hurting alot or to the point where i didnt wanna touch it. just dont pick at it!!

Fragrance free, chemical-free, gentle, non antibacterial soap. Like dove or johnsons! just lather up a little and gently wash at least 3 times a day. Then use the cream they gave you or babies' nappy rash cream (which i find the best! it's really thick and rich yet gentle!). Good luck,... but remember, it's very sensitive, wounded, healing skin so you need to be careful and kind to it.

Ivory soap non scented. Do not use A&D ointment use Aquafore. A&D somehow fades the color. Do this for about a week or so and then switch to using fragrence free lotion but keep using the Ivory for a month just to be on the safe side. Keep it out of the sun also.

ive heard not to use foam soap or bar soap. use dial antibacterial liquid soap or just use water and no soap for the first day i only wash it for about 12 hours after i get it, then sleep for 12, wake up and start using lotion after the first day its healed enough to where it shouldnt get infected very easily
