suggest a way to determine whether a colorless liquid is pure water or a salt solution without tasting it?

College chemisrty really has me stumped!! please help!

  • 1) You could see if it conducts electricity. A solution with electrolytes such as sodium chloride would conduct electricity. Pure water does not have any electrolytes so it would not conduct any electricity.

    2) Check the boiling point of the solution. A salt solution would have an elevated boiling point when compared to pure water.

    3) Check the freezing point of the solution. A salt solution would have a lower freezing poin when compared to pure water.
