unpack level scoops of formula or what?

I have heard different things. I have heard to scoop the powder to the top only and then to pour it in the bottle, and then i have heard to scoop the powder then tap it to get the spaces of air in the scooper out and then pour it in. i have always tapped it against the can to level the whole scoop out. should i just scoop and pour or what? wont baby get air bubbles if i dont tap? thanks

  • You're not supposed to tap it. The can says to use UNPACKED scoops. Just scoop, level it off with your finger, and put it in the bottle. He won't get gas.

  • What they are trying to say by unpacked level scoops is to not jam pack the scooper full by tapping it down to get all the air out from in between the formula. Just leave it fluffy and take off the excess from the top. From what you explained that you do (tapping on the side) sounds like the same thing I do, which is just to get the extra off the top right? If you keep tapping down the formula and packing it into the scooper you can be giving your baby too much calories for the amount that they are drinking. The baby wont get air bubbles either.

  • No, don't worry about air bubbles from the powder formula.

You only need to worry about the air bubbles after it's already mixed with water and in the bottles.

I usually use a little less than a full scoop...and I don't pack it or tap it.

I have 6 kids and they are all ok...lol

  • Yea. I just scooped and tapped it on the side of the can to get the top to level off. I don't thing that little bit really matters. I think feeding the baby is more important than there being a milligram extra formula.

  • I scoop and then tap it just to get off any excess that is on the top. Just as long as you are getting as close to the recommended amount as you can without completely stressing over it.

The tapping has nothing to do with air bubbles.

  • I have heard that you just scoop it, and then pour it in the bottle, don't tap it against the side or anything because that will give you MORE formula then needed. You are doing fine hang in there 🙂

  • I would fill up the scoop, tap it to get the air out, then put a little more in to the top, and then would level it off. Good Start Supreme had a level thing.

  • The baby won't get air bubbles if you don't tap the powder. The powder is not what causes air bubbles. It's the air in the bottle that gives the baby air bubbles.

  • IT DOESN'T MATTER HOW YOU SCOOP IT DARLING, IF YOU ARE NOT USING THE PLAYTEX BOTTLE WITH THE LINERS, THE BABY WILL GET AIR, ANYWAY. IF YOU USE THE BOTTLES WITH THE LINERS, YOU CAN PUSH UP, FROM THE BOTTOM, AND SQUEEZE THE AIR OUT, I USED THESE BOTTLES ON ALL 4 OF MY KIDS, THEIR GROWN NOW.
