I have to go to a visitation today and I have no Idea what to wear. I have been to a funeral but not a visitation. I have a black skirt and a white shirt, or I have many very casual things. Please Help!
What I guess Im asking- is do I have to wear black? Do I wear a skirt or casual?
Do I wear my black skirt with a colored shirt?

You don’t have to wear black, even to a funeral.
I’ve seen people at visitations wearing everything from jeans and shirts to dressier suit type outfits. Depending on your relationship to the person, you may wish to dress up a little more, the closer you were to them. If you are younger, there is nothing wrong with wearing something casual, yet nice.

Anything is fine so long as it isn’t bright or Eastery. In other words, you don’t have to wear black but think “subdued.” Earth tones, black, darker shades of colors, etc. will work fine. Also, it’s not as formal as a funeral as some people will be coming from work and other places. That doesn’t mean jeans, it just means you don’t have to wear a suit or something.

I would say black slacks and a white blouse are fine. I think white is about the only light color you could get away with because it’s a neutral color. When in doubt, go darker. It’s better to bless the family of the deceased with your presence than to like what you’re wearing.

My mom always told me to never wear blood red to a funeral or visitation. When my grandpa died, most people wore blue (dark or pastel), purple (dark or pastel), black, white, beige, dark green, cranberry, pastel pink. Most females wore a black skirt, black cardigan, and a simple top underneath. Dress pants or a skirt with a blouse is nice. But, honestly, people won’t be judging what you wear. They’ll just be happy to see you.

You’ll want to dress nicely and look your best. You may want to talk to the family to see what they think might be appropriate. If they are going to wear black, you’ll want to follow suit. However, why dress so darkly when things are sad enough? You can dress in color, but something light, like pastels.

No…You don’t have to wear black. Dress casual is fine. I have seen very casual. Both are ok. It’s what is in your heart that matters.

I like females in jeans. It makes them look more home town like and it doesn’t look like they try too much but if you’re looking to get this guys attention, this may not be what you want

Look presentable…NO jeans. Business casual. Also, for god’s sake, leave your cell phone in the car.
