What does it mean “to hot-walk a horse”?

Is it a walk to warm the horse before a race or cool the horse after a race? Or something totally different?

  • “Hot walking” is cooling out the horse after it is exercised. A rule of thumb is to walk twice as long as you exercised them. Or until their heart and resperatory rate and temp are back to normal.

  • The racing industry has certain jobs within each stable, there is the exercise rider, the groom, the trainer and the hot-walker (the person who cools out the horse after exercise or simply walks him around for an hour if he isn’t training that day). Busy stables with a lot of horses use a machine for this purpose to cut down on staffing, but the tight circling isn’t that good for a horse and you can’t offer him sips of water while on it.

  • basically the term hot-walk a horse is for those machines you see that exercise horses automatically, you hook a horse to the machine, which is called a hot walker and it exercises your horse for you, they go round and round in a circle,i guess you could use the machine to either exercise a horse you aren’t going to ride that day or to exercise a horse before riding it,but they are also used to cool down hot horses after being ridden

“hot” means the girls find you physically attractive… no wonder the guys are annoyed. well somebody (or something) can be “cool” also, which means that they have social popularity. if somebody is acting “cold”, that means they are being insulting: ignoring you, or hurting you without having any regard for your feelings

  • they are usally use to cool the horse down but they can also be used to warm a horse up before a race
