What does M.O. mean in dentist terms?

I know it has something to do with a cavity but what exactly does it mean?

  • Each surface of your tooth has a name. For back teeth they are:

    front = mesial

    back = distal

    top = occlusal

    inside = lingual

    outside = buccal

    The MO (mesial occlusal) means you have a cavity between your teeth, specifically on the front side of your tooth and the biting surface.

  • It means the surfaces of the tooth that are included in the filing. M is mesial which is the side of the tooth that is closer to the front teeth, and the O means occlusal which is the biting surface of the tooth. So your filling is a 2 surface filling that extends on the biting surface to the side of the tooth that is closer to the front teeth.
