What is a metering skid?

I am a non-native English speaker. I have to translate a text about oil metering systems. Such a system contains a "metering skid". What exactly is a skid? What synonym would you suggest instead of "skid"? Thank you

  • A metering skid is a fabricated frame of heavy I beams on which the meter run, the meter prover loop in some instances and ancillary control houses, solar panel , batteries, transmitters, control valves and other equipment as required is installed.

In most cases a metering skid is a Custody Transfer Meter where the monetary calculations are determined.

In most cases the actual flow meter is an orifice plate. this means for large diameter meter runs, the skid base can become quite long (I've designed and checked out some 100 feet long and longer.)

  • Skid equals platform, a fabricated platform with all necessary piping, Valves filters and instruments to perform the metering function. The skid is fabricated and tested off site and is then shipped and installed as a functional unit.
