  • Its when a person is charged with stealing a car. Its a felony and that person can face many years in prison.

Grand Larceny is theft of property that is worth more than a certain amount. In 90% of the U.S. that amount is $250 so if someone steals something worth more than $250, it is grand larceny, and is considered a felony vs. below $250 which is considered misdemeanor.

  • I just wanted to note that larsening isn't a word so grand larsening theft is probably quite serious.

Grand larceny however is theft of goods with a value over a certain amount and is a felony. I thought it was $1000 as that is what I learned back in high school. It may have been lowered since. Theft under that determined value is petit larceny and usually a misdemeanor.
