What is the distance between the two m=1 bright fringes?

A diffraction grating with 543 lines/mm is illuminated with light of wavelength 583 nm. A very wide viewing screen is 1.74 m behind the grating.

My work:

(1/543)*10^-3 = 1.84*10^-9 lines per meter

Lines per meter * sin theta = 1(583*10^-9)

sin theta = .3165725

theta = 18.45577 deg

tan(18.45577) = x/2

.3337372= x/2

x= .66747

My answer is wrong for some reason. What am I doing wrong?

  • Required distance = 2*1.74*tan (18.455577) = 1.16 m
