This is a question on a study guide for my government class. It is under the section entitled "The Federal Bureaucracy". "Line Agency" is not in the glossary or the index of the textbook. I simply have no idea how to find it. Does anyone know the answer?

Line agencies carry out government policies and provide services. Different than a staff agency, which includes the executive office of President, The office of the Cabinet, The office of Management and Budget, National Security council.

The agency world is highly competitive, and many times just plain cutthroat. They are representing their client companies first, and you second. They are generally paid only if you are working, or if they find you a permanent position. Because of this, they are trying to understand how committed to their specific agency you are. And also how fast they are going to have to move to get you before any other agency. Very many times companies use more than one agency to fill their positions (that's when it gets cutthroat!)! Presenting the facts properly is key here. You can say to each on that you are looking at all options that fit your skills and background and are interested in learning about their opportunities as soon as they are available. Also, if you only have potential interviews that have not been realized, they are not interviews. Please realize that you are the one in control of your job search, and the agency is there to provide you with possible opportunities, not the other way around.

I know of a few people who worked at some of the well-known Bull Sh*T agencies out there like Robert Half, K Force and Creative Financial Staffing just to mention a few. They all post fake jobs to get people to apply. Then they pick and choose which ones look like good candidates’ to call for an interview when you go for the fake job with the agency they come up with some stupid excuse as soon as we have something matching your skills we will call you " what a joke you’re not gonna get a call back so keep wishing they don’t have jobs to begin with not even the fake one you applied too. When you walk out of there you just let them figure the hell out of you!! That’s sick! ...... So for future reference ( 1) agencies can be pest (2 )they lie and they can be good at it "you will fall for it" (3) when they post a job they get lots of resumes’ so they don’t pay for the resume search like monster or careerbuilder or indeed to look for potential job seekers. My recommendation is ask questions “OVER THE PHONE” Examples’ What jobs do you have that I might qualify for? Is the job still available! If they give you some sob story they don’t have that job anymore or you might qualify for something better we just need to meet !!.......you have a great back ground!! we have list of jobs that you could be a great fit for!! I heard all of that sh*t and they sound like skipping cds……. Time is money they will waste your time and hopes of getting a job!! Ask questions !! they are only the middle man! They don’t have the last call if you get a job or not. YOU have better chances of getting a job on your own JUST LOOK for one KEEP KEEP applying …DON’T BE LAZY or just get figured by these agencies and if you do…. you love it... then and you sick !
