What’s the average number of work days per year for a full time job in the U.S.?

I am hopefully taking a new job next week, and on my paperwork it says will work 260 days per year. Is that average, above average, below average?

Yeh, the hours per week wasn’t my question

  • ( 5 days / week ) ( 52 weeks ) = 260 days less any allowed holidays .

For a new employee , this would be common with about 5 holidays

    ( Memorial day , 4th July , labor day , thanksgiving & christmas )

People who do work those usually get paid extra .

    good luck

  • According to 2012 consensus it’s 1,790 hours. Because there are holidays, days off, vacation it’s a little less than that. for 2011 and the years passed it’s around 1785 or so and it usually decreases over time except for 2012. do some research it is no where near 2080 hours.

  • This year we are on pace to work 330 days. As of now we’ve had 31 days that we were not expected to work, including holidays. We will get a combined 4 days off between Nov 16th and Jan 1. In my opinion working 330 days ( about 2 days off per month.) feels oppressive and excessive. Is it?

  • That is average. The way they get 260 days is by taking 2,080 hours worked per year (which they get by multiplying 40 hours per week by 52 weeks – # of weeks in a year) and dividing that number by 8 (as in 8 hours a day). That equals 260 days of work. Five days a week for 52 weeks.

  • 52 weeks = 260 days

    -2 weeks vacation = 10 days

    – federal holidays= 10 days

    So 240 would be average

  • Average full-time job is:

    5 days per week.

50 weeks per year (assuming a two week vacation)

    equals 250 days per year.

  • around average

  • 40 hours a week is full-time
