Why is there a red ring around my iris?

Hi, so I was using my iPod just relaxing and got up to go to the bathroom. Here i saw a red ring around my iris in my righ eye. It doesn’t hurt and it feels like mornings wrong. I wear contacts and I’ve been having random times where my eye gets very red, watery, and sensitive to light but this isn’t the same. Why is this happening? Thanks!!

  • A red ring around the cornea in a soft contact lens wearer indicates a problem with the lens. One cause is that you have become sensitive to the contact lens solution. It is possible to see this in one eye.

Another cause is the lens is drying out and steepening. This then acts like a tourniquet on the vessels near the edge of the cornea. This appears as a red ring.

The solution to the first problem is to switch to ClearCare for taking care of your lenses. This is a peroxide based system. It is super important to NEVER put this solution in your eye as it will be extremely irritating.

The solution to the second issue is to use daily disposables and not overwear your lenses.

Your lense is too stepp, in other words too tight, you need to get lenses that fit by going to the optomatrist because most are custom made for people so that they do not encounter these problems. It is dangerour to have the ring because it means that the lense does not allow the passage of oxygen and the natural tears to create underneath. (That’s bad!) Do not wear your contacts for a few days and go to the optomatrist to get some fit for you. Symptoms include irritation, probably when you wake up) I guess it might feel like when you keep your eyes open without blinking for a long time in a staring contest and your eyes get dried up in the webstie it said something about chemical burning-sensation, maybe that is a different kind of symtom you feel or it is to describe the symptom you are having

  • I get it when I’ve been at the computer or reading or watching a film for a while. It’s eye strain.

However, you should get your eyes checked and relax them for a bit to see if the redness goes away.

  • You might have overworked the receptors in your eye; it happens to me sometimes after I play Playstation or XBox too much. Also, it may just be a small piece of your contact irritating your eye, or something else. I dunno. Maybe just a trick of the light; try looking in different mirrors.
